5/09/22: PROGRESS REPORTS AND UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MEETINGS
5/09/22/1: Grant funding. Cllr Steven Smalley had received a response from BAE to say that they were unable to carry out work for the planned memorial wall but were willing to support the project with a grant of £5,000. Steven would now be looking to find prices for an outside company to make the memorial wall. Discussion took place as to what details should be on the wall. This would need to be looked at in more detail depending on cost.
6/09/22: REPORT FROM COMMUNITY POLICE TEAM
PCSO Joe Ward gave the reports for August 2022 1 antisocial behaviour of youths spraying paint onto the side of the church, caller confronted the youths. Graffiti was later removed by the same youths, no names given. 3 reports of female having mental health episode, 1 report of 13 year old missing from home, 1 public order – council now dealing with as a civil matter, 2 domestic incidents, 1 concern for female found safe and well, 1 sheep on A595 and 1 broken down vehicle near brickworks.
709/22: TO REPORT AND DISCUSS PLANNING APPLICATIONS
Reference Number: B13/2022/0624 Location : 89 Duke Street, Askam-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA16 7AD Proposal : Conversion of 3 storey building from two flats to 3 flats and completion of part built two storey extension with elevational changes.
Reference Number: B13/2022/0567 Location : Marsh Grange Barn Dunnerholme Askam-in-Furness Cumbria LA17 7TU Proposal : New dwelling with retention of the existing two-sided wall structure.
There were no comments or objections. The Clerk was asked to respond.

8/09/22: UPDATE ON COMMUNITY SPEED WATCH
Cllr Steven Smalley reported that there had been no speed watches during the Summer break. He had met with a group from Dalton who were keen to start a speed watch in their area and given advice to them. The village speed watch signs have now been received and he will contact the fire brigade regarding fixing them around the village.

9/09/22: VILLAGE PLANTERS
The Clerk had met with Continental Landscapes regarding supplying and planting the village planters for the winter. It was agreed to go ahead with this. The Clerk would contact Continental Landscapes.

10/09/22: POLICE POD
Cllr Mike Cumming had met with Wards Limited, who believed the Pod was beyond repair and
needed to be replaced. Cllr Cumming then spoke to Steeles who said that a new office container would be in the
region of £13,000 which did not include fitting out, fixing in place and connecting utilities. With this cost in mind
Cllr Cumming has contacted SN Group of Barrow in Furness, who will come and inspect the Pod on Wednesday
21st September.
11/09/22: PREPARATION OF BUDGET AND PRECEPT 2023/24
The Clerk asked if a separate meeting could be held to discuss this. Communications from Susan Roberts,
Financial Officer for Barrow Borough stated that the request for Precept would follow normal procedure this year
by a date yet to be decided, however the normal Grant received from Barrow Borough Council would cease this
year and would not be continued under WAF.
12/09/22: SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE 2022
The Clerk asked if the parish council would like to go ahead with the usual arrangements for the Service of Remembrance which this year would take place on Sunday 13th November 2022. It was agreed that the Clerk should make the necessary arrangements and if possible, there would be refreshments after the service this year in the Rankin Hall.
13/09/22: GRANT REQUEST FROM IRELETH WITH ASKAM BROWNIES AND RAINBOWS
A letter had been received from Michelle Johnson, leader of the Brownies and Rainbows for a trip to Waddow- Hall camp in Lancashire for Summer 2023. This was agreed and a donation of £100.00 would be sent to Michelle.

14/09/22 UPDATE FROM BOROUGH, WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS AND COUNTY COUNCILLOR
Councillor Edwards reported that the bags of sand had been removed from Park Avenue and that the trees in the memorial garden would be pruned when the leaves had fallen off.
A report had been sent by Councillor Ben Shirley who reported on County matters.
1. The road closures which occurred earlier on this month and caused havoc with access into and out of the village (rail crossing was closed alongside an emergency closure for utility works): I have requested that the parish council and myself are informed ahead of these closures so that we can comment/advise accordingly, to avoid this congestion and lack of communication happening again.
2. Marsh Farm. – Issues regarding the tipping near the beach were being dealt with by various agencies and Cllr Shirley was keeping abreast of the situation. PCSO Ward stated that the police were awaiting reports from the various agencies.
2. Ireleth Road - I continue to hold the authority to account on this and welcome the parish council’s ongoing support. The parish council and the PCSO were more than disappointed at the lack of progress made by Highways in relation to the safety of the road on Tippins Lane near Ireleth school. The Clerk was asked to respond to Councillor Shirley to ask for an update as to when the work would be completed.

The monthly expenditure spreadsheet was made available to the parish councillors for examination and comment. These were accepted.
