3/10/23/1: Caravan and Motorhome Club Certified Location Site. An application has been posted at the entrance to Roanhead Farm regarding a proposal for a CL at the ‘Rabbit Warren’ near Roanhead Crag. This was discussed and concerns were raised regarding the ecology and natural environment of this area and the damage such a development could have on the area and the habitats are species in that area. Access to the site was also discussed. With plans for other developments being submitted the parish council felt it needed to respond to this application. A response would be sent to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
These were approved and agreed as a true and accurate record and were signed by the Chairman.

5/10/23/1: Parking in Askam. The planned walk around with parking, highways officers, Cllr Ben Shirley and Cllr Bill Wilson had been cancelled, due to unforeseen circumstances, but would be re-arranged.
5/10/23/3: Statue for Memorial Garden. The latest from W&F council is that an agreement to site the statue in the memorial is that a lease is being prepared.
5/10/23/4: Steel Street/Sharp Street Park. Work has been carried out at the park. The hedges have been lowered and some trees have been crowned, wooded fences have been repaired. This work is on-going, and funds will need to be put into the budget for next year for more work to be carried out to the trees.
5/10/23/5: Police Pod. ENWL put back the date for removing the electrical supply to the Pod. It should be started on 18 October. Removal of the Pod is being looked into and quotes are being sought to have it removed.
5/10/23/6: Parish Council Website.
The Chairman welcomed Sergeant Paul Holmes to the meeting. Sergeant Holmes gave an update of the current neighbour police team covering the area and said that new officers were due in December to help police our area. The police are currently recruiting PCSOs for the area and anyone interest should contact Cumbria Police.
Reported crimes for the period 19/9 to 17/10 – 1 Report of RTC on Ireleth Road on the 26th September 2023, 3 vehicles damaged and HGV. No injuries reported. 3 assaults against emergency workers, 3 malicious communications, 1 assault ABH, 2 harassment offences, 1 sec 4A.
Representatives from Furness Cars and Commercial attending the meeting to discuss at recently planning application they had submitted to Westmorland and Furness Planning. According to the response from the planning department the parish council were a statutory consultee. The parish council had not been contacted regarding the application. The parish council apologised for this oversight and thanked FCC for attending the meeting. The Clerk was asked to contact Planning.
Reference Number : BSS/2023/0585 Location : Land at Hawthwaite Lane, Barrow in Furness. The Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017 – Request for Screening Opinion pursuant to Regulation 6(1): Comprising a holiday park for 40 touring caravan/motorhome/camper pitches, accommodation for reception facilities, small shop and visitor amenities (toilets/showers), 62 carbon neutral eco lodges and a car park with capacity for approximately 50 vehicles. Lodged with Westmorland and Furness Council by Queensland Developments.
This request was discussed, and a response will be sent to planning.
All the necessary forms and documents have been completed and submitted. Permission has been granted for the use of the memorial garden. The temporary road closure has been granted. Meet at the Rankin Hall at 2pm for the march to the memorial garden. The service will commence at approximately 2.15pm. Return to the Rankin Hall for refreshments.
Cllr Daniel Edwards reported that he had attended a full meeting of W&F council. Discussed had taken place regarding the closure and reduced hours at some railway station which would cause problems to rail traveller, particularly disabled travellers at stations such as Ulverston. A letter would be sent to the Government from W&F council. The issue with the bus service through Askam and Ireleth had also been on the agenda. The clash the new service from Stagecoach and the service provided by Blueworks. Chief Executive of W&F council, Sam Plum had requested a visit to the area which would take place in the future.
Cllr Edwards mentioned, in his role as Governor for Ireleth St Peter’s school, that the school are looking for a road crossing attendant. Anyone interested should contact the school.
The monthly expenditure spread sheet was made available to the councillors. This was agreed and accepted.
