3/10/24/1: Restricted Parking Area, Duke Street Shops. A question was asked regarding the recent addition of restricted parking lines outside the Post Office and shops on Duke Street. There was no sign explaining how long the restricted was for. Cllr Ben Shirley has been approached and said he will ask Highways.
3/10/24/2: Common Hest Land, Saves Lane, Ireleth. This area, which belongs to W&F is very overgrown and the brambles and nettles are encroaching into the play park on the pavement area. Cllr Daniel Edwards said he would report to W&F. The Clerk will send details to Cllr Edwards. Action Cllr Edwards

5/10/24/1: Memorial Garden Statue. A 7-year lease has been signed. The parish council are waiting for a copy of the signed lease.
5/10/24/2: Drop Kerbs in the village. Cllr Ben Shirley will be having a walk around the village with a resident to look at drop kerbs and will be meeting to Highways to discuss.
5/10/24/3: Path at Sandy Lane. Cllr Edwards is looking into this, but the main issue is ownership of the path.
Update received for period 18/9 to 14/10. 1 assault police assault following finding a drunk male on Steel Street, 17 calls for service with police log 1 x alarm, 11 road related incidents, 3 concern for welfare and 2 crime/miscellaneous. There will be an opportunity to meet Community Police Beat Officer Chloe Dixon in Askam Library at 1500 hours. The neighbour police PACT survey for Dalton is live now and residents can report any concerns via this service. If you need details, please contact the Clerk.

It was with regret that the parish council accepted the resignation of parish councillor Rebecca Knagg. Becky explained that her workload has increased, and she felt she was unable to give the commitment needed to be a parish councillor. The parish council thanked Becky for her involved and support and wished her well.
Cllr Alan Mason had represented the parish council at this event at Carlisle Cathedral. He said it had been a wonderful which he had enjoyed and gave the parish council a full update. Unfortunately, due to his train times he missed out on the champagne and canapes!
The Chairman and Councillor Mike Cumming had interviewed two very good candidates for the co-opted position of Parish Councillor.
This years’ service of remembrance will take place on Sunday 10 November. With the closure of the Rankin Hall we will meet at the Community Centre, Duke Street at 2pm and walk over to the memorial garden for the service which will commence at 2.15pm. A road closure will be in place from Park Avenue to School Street will be in place during from 2.15 pm until 2.45 pm.
Sadly, the Askam and Ireleth Events Committee will not be organising a Christmas Tree Light Switch on this year. Working with Councillor Ben Shirley and our very own Platform One Café we will be working on an event around the Christmas Tree Light Switch. In the early stages at the moment. The plan is to have an event at Platform One at 4.30 pm with food, drinks, Askam Town Silver Band, the Clerk will write to Father Christmas to see if he can attend. The Christmas Tree lights will be switched on at 6pm in the Memorial Garden. The parish council spoke of the work and commitment given over the years by the Events Committee and thanked them for all their hard work in the village. It was agreed that a Christmas type banner would be purchased.
Cllr Edwards gave an update from the locality board meeting, which Councillor Cumming also attended. Cllr Edwards had asked questions regarding the litter on the A590. One of the main topics was the bin collections which was being reviewed by Westmorland and Furness. A motion had been proposed and agreed by W&F to write to the government regarding the removal the winter fuel allowance for pensioners. Councillor Edwards and Councillor Shirley had met with our MP Michelle Scrogham in Askam and Ireleth, they had discussed issues which affected our community and asked for her support. Councillor Edwards said it had been a useful meeting. Councillor Edwards has contacted Highways regarding refreshing of road markings at Askam railway crossing.
A copy of the monthly expenditure sheet was made available. This was accepted.

A poster had been received regarding W&F Handyman Service. The Clerk will display on notice boards and send to social media sites.
Cllr Mason mentioned the Warm and Cosy event which will take place on Wednesday 18 November in the Methodist Church. All welcome.
