4/05/23: PUBLIC QUESTION TIME
4/05/23/1: Memorial Garden. A letter has been received from residents of Park Avenue regarding the use of the memorial garden. Recently people have been seen to exercise their dogs off lead in the garden and not picking up after their dogs, also children playing football in the garden. The residents feel this is an inappropriate use of the garden, which is a place to remember those who have died in both world wars. The parish council agreed with this sentiment and expressed the view that there are plenty of places in the village to exercise your dog and for children to play, without using the memorial garden. As the garden is the property of Westmorland and Furness council, Councillor Ben Shirley and Daniel Edwards would escalate this to the relevant officer.

6/05/23: PROGRESS REPORTS AND UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING
6/05/23/1: Quiet Lanes. Update received. Joanne has completed a Freedom of Information request form with Cumbria County Council to ask for all information relating to Quiet Lanes in Cumbria, but with the switch to the new council, appears to have been delayed, and Joanne is now hoping to hear back in early June.
6/05/23/2: Memorial Garden Commemorative Statue. Cllr Ben Shirley sent a reminder letter to Sam Plum, Chief Executive of Westmorland and Furness to ask for her support and approval for the parish council to go ahead with this project.

6/05/23/3: Save Roanhead Campaign. An update received from the group. The planning application for the development has been submitted to Westmorland and Furness Council but has not yet been validated by the planning officers and has not yet been sent out for consultation. The group are planning public meetings and door to door leaflet dropping.
7/05/23: ANNUAL ACCOUNTING CERTIFICATE AGAR 2022/23 PART 3
Cllr Mike Cumming presented the annual accounting certificate, which had been sent to the parish council prior to the meeting. This was agreed and accepted by the parish council. This was then signed by the Chairman.

10/05/23: REPORT FROM POLICE, INCLUDING ROAD TRAFFIC MATTERS
The parish council welcomed PC Lydia Howard to the parish council meeting. PC Lydia presented the crime figures for Askam and Ireleth. 1 report of fraud, 1 highway disruption caused by oil spill, 1 road traffic collision whereby male suffered a medical condition whilst riding a bike, 1 wildlife incident loose horse, 1 x 2 vehicle road traffic collision outside Askam brickworks, 1 x 3 vehicle RTC on Ireleth Road and 1 suspicious incident of a report of a male with a weapon. PC Howard reported that unfortunately the police had not been able to receive data from the SID when it was on Ireleth Road because of a fault with the unit. The unit was being taken to be repaired and would be re-deployed on its return. PC Howard said that together a colleague she would be organising speed checks in Askam and Ireleth, she asked for areas of concern, which were discussed. A visit had been made to Ireleth School to meet with the Headteacher and discuss issues with regards to speeding traffic near the school. The parish council thanked PC Howard for attending the meeting which was much appreciated.

Reference Number : B21/2023/0275 Location : Moor View Alexander Place Askam-in-Furness Proposal : Removal of side conservatory, construction of rear sunroom, side utility room, side store room and front porch.
There were no comments or objections to any of these applications. The Clerk was asked to respond to Planning.
12/05/23: UPDATE FROM WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCILLORS
Cllr Daniel Edwards that there had been a series of locality meetings which himself and Cllr Shirley had attended. Cllr Edwards had attended the meeting of the newly formed planning committee for the Barrow Area and explained the process of public attendance at meetings. He said that the proposed development at Roanhead was mentioned at the meeting, because of the scale of the development it would not be left with the locality committee for Barrow but would be part of the strategy committee which is a full committee of members from across Westmorland and Furness. These committee meetings usually take place in Kendal. The planning application has been lodged but is still to be verified and has not yet been sent out for consultation. Cllr Shirley reported that he has received an assurance that the flashing lights for Ireleth St Peter’s school will be fitted on 22 May 2023.
