Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic emergency the parish council were unable to hold a public
meeting. A meeting of the parish council was held via Zoom,

2/06/20: APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE
Parish Councillor Susan Orrell, Borough and County Council Ben Shirley, Borough
Councillor Daniel Edwards and Sam Ronson (who were attended a Borough Council
meeting) and PCSO Louise Perry, who was unable to attend due to operational duties.
3/06/20: PUBLIC QUESTION TIME
Residents had been invited to send in questions 3 days before the meeting to give
their views and
question the Parish Council on issues on this Agenda or any other matters
regarding parish issue.
No correspondence from residents had been received for this meeting.
4/06/20: APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF MEETING HELD 26 MAY 2020
These were approved and agreed as a true and accurate record and will be signed and
dated by the Vice Chairman.

5/06/20: PROGRESS AND UPDATES FROM PERVIOUS MINUTES
5/06/20/1: Benches on Duddon Road. These had been given a ‘spruce up’ by the
Clerk.
5/06/20/2: Paving in Memorial Garden. Cllr Bill Wilson reported that Colin Roberts
Landscapes had commenced the work in the memorial garden and should be completed
by Friday 19 June 2020. The next step would be to purchased planters and working with
the history group put together information boards about the soldiers named on the
memorial.
5/06/20/3: GP Surgery in Askam. The purchase of the surgery is ongoing and
currently lies with the solicitors.
It is expected that the service will be up and running by 1st August or earlier. Patients
have transferred to the new service with Duddon Valley Medical Services as of the 19th
June and are now being supported by them. The hours of service are planned to be
Monday to Thursday with one evening open to 8pm closed on Friday. The new practice is
also a dispensing service.
5/06/20/4: Update on Emergency Hub in Askam and Ireleth. There has not been
much call for the volunteers’ services from the Helpline Hub in the villages 2 requests
for food supplies, 3- NHS prescription deliveries and one disabled scooter repair.
6/06/20: REPORT FROM POLICE AND ROAD TRAFFIC MATTERS
Crime figures for May 2020 – 15 anti-social behaviour including 2 neighbour disputes, 2
malicious communications, quad/motorbike on beach, drunken male at Co-Op. 10 Covid
19 related breaches 2 reports of people attending second homes, 3 reports of youths at
Burlington ponds, 1 report of youths on Duddon Sports Club, 4 reports of youths on
mopeds at the rear of Sharp Street (being monitored by Police). 4 domestic assaults,
common assault (domestic), 2 x actual bodily harm at one address and actual bodily
harm domestic related/child protection. 1 Burglary report of theft of a TV at Hawthwaite
House. 0 Criminal damage, 0 theft and 1 arrest for possession of cannabis on the Lots.
7/06/20 TO REPORT ON AND DISCUSS ANY PLANNING ISSUES
Location : Armadale Ireleth Road Ireleth Askam-in-Furness Cumbria LA16 7DL
Proposal : Demolition of a detached bungalow (Armadale) and the erection of
two detached dwellings. An email from a resident has been received regarding
this proposal. The clerk was asked to respond mentioning the objection to
Barrow Borough Council.
8/06/20: POLICE POD
Cllr Trevor Hughes has made further repairs to the roof of the police pod and he hopes
this will stop the water ingress.
9/06/20: BEACH SAFETY
Cllr Trevor Hughes is concerned about safety on Askam beach, particularly as more
people seemed to be using the beach for exercise. A lot of the people using the beach
were not from Askam and Ireleth and the worry is that they were not aware of the tide
times and the dangers out in the estuary. The parish council asked Cllr Hughes if he
would like to speak to Duddon Inshore and see if there was any way they could get the
message out to visitors. The parish council had purchased signs for the beach accesses
explaining the dangers on the beach and giving details of how to call for help.
10/06/20: REPORT FROM CLERK INCLUDING FINANCES
The monthly expenditure spreadsheet was sent to the parish councillors prior to the
meeting. This was reviewed and accepted.

The Clerk reported that the annual accounts had been sent to the external auditor and
the notice of account completion had been put in the village notice board and on the
parish council website.
11/06/20: UPDATE FROM BOROUGH AND COUNTY COUNCILLOR
There was no report as all the Borough Councillors were attending a full council meeting
with Barrow Borough Council.
12/06/20: CORRESPONDENCE
All correspondence had been sent to parish council prior to the meeting. There were no
questions.
13/06/20: SANCTIONS FOR PAYMENT
2nd class stamps £7.80, Wood stain for painting seats £45.00, cartridges for
printer £341.84, monthly
landscape and ground maintenance £570.84, parish Lengthsman painting gazebo
£64.00.
