6/01/23: REPORT FROM COMMUNITY POLICE TEAM
Report received from PCSO Joe Ward. Askam and Ireleth Crime figures for December 2022. 2 x ASB reports of youths knocking and kicking on doors, 5 x crime 3 x domestic – one resulting in arrest, 1 x dog on dog attack, 1 suspicious incident of someone banging on door and window (not youth related), 3 x road related offences/RTC/Highway disruption 1 report of pit bikes on beach, youths and parents spoken to by police, 1 highway disruption railway level crossing not working, 1 vehicle broken down at Greenscoe, vehicle removed to side of road. It was with deep regret that the parish council have been informed that PCSO Joe Ward is leaving the community police force. PCSO Ward has been very helpful and supportive during his time as our Community Police Officer, and he will be missed. The parish council wish him every success in his new career.

8/01/23: PRECEPT AND BUDGET
Letter received from Susan Roberts, Finance Officer asking for our precept for year 2023/24. Although the parish council will need to raise the precept to cover rising costs and inflation, they are conscious of the difficulties some people are experiencing with increasing cost of living and the parish council will do their best to manage and keep the budget precept as low as they possibly can. The precept will be set at £23,000.00.
9/01/23: GRANT APPLICATION FROM PARK-PLAY
Laura from Park Play attended the parish council meeting and gave an update on the work Park Play carry out in Askam and Ireleth. Park Play is held on the Lots Field every Saturday morning and anyone is welcome to come along and join in. It is very well attended both children and parents. The parish council agreed that this was a very worthwhile activity and agreed to support the grant application. As the parish council support other youth activities in the village, they agreed to give the same amount to Park Play £100.00.

10/01/23: CO-OPTED VACANCY FOR PARISH COUNCIL
The parish council have received two applications. Interviews will take place on Wednesday 25 January.
11/01/23: PARKING ON DOUBLE LINES, DUKE STREET
A member of the public contacted the parish council with concerns about the amount of vehicles parking on double yellow lines on Duke Street. Cllr Ben Shirley said he has spoken to the Parking Officers, and they have assured him that they do visit Askam and Ireleth on a regular basis and will continue to do so. Cllr Shirley will send the reports he receives from the Parking Officers to the parish council. Action Cllr Shirley
12/01/23: SPEEDING VEHICLES, IRELETH ROAD
The parish council has been contacted by a resident of Ireleth Road with concerns regarding vehicles speeding on Ireleth Road. Everyone present at the meeting agreed that this was a long-term issue and something that was a huge concern. Cllr Ben Shirley has raised with Cumbria Police, who will take this to the regular CRASH meeting and asked the Collision Reduction Officer to look into road traffic incidents in the area. They will also deploy the SID on the road.

13/01/23: REPLACEMENT LITTER BINS
The Clerk reported that some of the litter bins around the village need replacing because they are either broken or unsightly. She has made contact with Barrow BC to ask which bins belong to them. If they belong to the parish council she will obtain prices for their replacement. There has also been complaints regarding residents putting recycle and household rubbish into the litter bins, particularly the ones on Steel Street/Sharp Street park and Duke Street. Residents and Business are reminded that litter bins for litter and dog waste only and not household, recycle or bulky waste.
14/01/23: UPDATE FROM BOROUGH AND WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCILLOR
Cllr Daniel Edwards reported that himself and Cllr Ben Shirley had attended an on-line meeting with members of the new Westmorland and Furness Authority. He said that things are slowly getting clearer as to how the new authority will work. There are proposals to retain local committees for 3 distinct areas of W&F Authority retaining one in the Barrow area. Both Councillors felt this was a good step forward, this will also include planning. Currently all current Barrow Borough Council staff are being TUPE over to the new W&F Authority.
Cllr Ben Shirley reported that he is working closely with Highways, Ireleth St Peter’s school, residents, police and this parish council to make sure the safety measures planned for the A595 Tippins Lane near St Peter’s school are in place before the end of March. Highways are having supply chain issues for some of the equipment required which are still being affected the covid pandemic.

16/01/23: CORRESPONDENCE
Email regarding the proposed development of Eco Lodges at Roanhead Farm. There will be a public open event in the Rankin Hall, Duke Street, Askam on Wednesday 15th February between 1pm and 7pm for people to view the proposals, ask questions and give their opinions to the Developers.
Correspondence received from Barrow Borough Council explaining that they will not be responsible for supplying the village Christmas tree and lights. As from 1st April 2023 there will be no Barrow Borough Council, Barrow will be a town council under the jurisdiction of Westmorland and Furness. Information has been passed on to the Askam and Ireleth Events Committee who organise the event each year.
