Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic emergency the parish council were unable to hold a public
meeting. A meeting of the parish council was again held via Zoom,

5/11/20: PROGRESS AND UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
5/11/20/1: Parking Issues at Ireleth St Peter’s School. Cllr Ben Shirley report on
his visit to the school with Victoria Upton of Cumbria Highways and 2 members of the
Barrow Local Committee. A number of issues had been discussed, including refreshing
of the zig-zag lines outside the school, white line painting, cutting back of hedges, new
signage and cones to be purchased for the school. Some longer term plans were being
considered, but these needed to be investigated more fully.
5/11/20/2: Land at the rear of Sharp Street. The Clerk had contacted the residents
who had sent in complaints about the allotment at the rear of Sharp Street. She had
explained that this was private land and that any complaints should be sent to the owner
of the land. Closed
5/11/20/3: Seat on Duddon Road. Sadly since the last meeting this seat had been
vandalised. The seat, which is the property of Barrow BC has been removed by Barrow
BC and taken away for repair.
5/11/20/4: Community Speed Watch. A number of volunteers had come forward to
join the Community Speed Watch Team. These names had been passed on to Cllr Steve
Smally, who unfortunately was not present at this meeting. Cllr Bill Wilson asked if signs
were to be erected to say that Askam and Ireleth was a community speed watch area.
The Clerk was asked to check with other areas to see what the protocol was for signage.

5/11/20/5: Annual Service of Remembrance. The Service had been carried out
following Covid 19 guidelines, which was a vastly different experience from previous
years. A wreath had been laid by the Chairman on behalf of the community. Many other
community groups and individuals laid wreaths throughout the day, even with the
restrictions Askam and Ireleth remembered all those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Cllr Mike Cumming had taken a video of the event and Askam Town Band had produced
a wonderful and poignant virtual Remembrance Concert. The Clerk put wooden poppy
crosses on the war graves in Ireleth St Peter’s Churchyard with messages from the
community. It was agreed to send donations to Askam Band and the Royal British Legion
for their continued support.

5/11/20/6: Members Code of Conduct. The Clerk has responded to Barrow Borough
Council saying that the parish council adopt the new code of conduct.
6/11/20: REPORT FROM POLICE AND ROAD TRAFFIC MATTERS
6 Anti-social behaviour - Second hand threats made by phone. Domestic related.
Concerns regarding a dog and neighbourly dispute. Youths on bikes riding in the road
on Duke Street. Bullying via facebook.
Youths in Sandy Lane park concerns re-social distancing Covid related. Caspian Road,
concerns regarding visitors to house Covid related. 0 Assault. 0 Burglary. 0 Criminal
Damage. 0 Drugs. 2 Public Order Offence, Crime submitted for public order domestic
related on Saves Lane. Crime submitted for public order on Beach Street, threats made.
2 Theft. Pedal Cycle from Black Huts, Theft of steak and gin from Co-Op value £87.50.

7/11/20 TO REPORT ON AND DISCUSS ANY PLANNING ISSUES – CLLR SUSAN ORRELL
Reference Number : B07/2020/0648 Location : Land at Lots Road Askam-in-Furness
Cumbria Proposal: Erection of 23 residential dwellings and creation of an access (re-
submission of 2020/0003). Comments were made by the parish council concerning
safety issues during construction and the proximity to Askam Village School. They were
also concerned about extra traffic using Lots Road.
Cllr Ben Shirley, as a Governor of Askam Village School was working closely with the
Headteacher at the school and of course safety of the pupils, staff, parents, and carers
was the main priority. Cllr Shirley had been in contact with Planning regarding this
development and the one further along the Lots Road.
Reference Number : B13/2020/0700 Location : Armadale Ireleth Road Ireleth Askam-
in-Furness Cumbria LA16 7DL Proposal : Removal of existing bungalow and
outbuildings, construction of 1 1/2 storey dwelling with detached garage (re-submission
of B13/2020/0300 in a revised form). Concerns were raised regarding road safety during
the demolition and subsequent building on this site.

8/11/20: LOCAL GOVERNMENT REFORM
Cllr Mike Cumming, Alan Mason gave an over-view of the zoom meeting they had
attended with Barrow BC and Cllr Bill Wilson gave his comments on the document from
Cumbria County Council. No conclusion was reached.
9/11/20: UPDATE ON DOCTORS SURGERY
There were no further updates at the moment, a conference call was being held on
Wednesday 18 November and it was hoped that there would be some progress.
10/11/20: BUDGET FOR 2020/21
A zoom meeting to discuss the budget and set the precept would be held on Monday 23
November at 7.15 pm.
11/11/20: UPDATE FROM BOROUGH AND COUNTY COUNCILLORS
Cllr Daniel Edwards reported that the main issue currently for the Borough Council was
the unitary government issue.
Cllr Ben Shirley reported on his on-line petition regarding street care activities within
Dalton North. The Designated Street Operative had been removed from Dalton North
and Cllr Shirley is trying to get the Borough Council to reconsider this decision. The
parish council fully support Cllr Shirley in his efforts.
