Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic emergency the parish council were unable to hold a public
meeting. A meeting of the parish council was again held via Zoom,

3/10/20: PUBLIC QUESTION TIME
3/10/20/1: Parking at Ireleth St Peter’s School. Headteacher Rachael McFarlane of
St Peter’s school, Ireleth and Rebecca Knagg of the Friends of Ireleth School addressed
the parish council regarding their concerns about parking at ISP. This is an ongoing
issue, and Mrs McFarlane was keen to update the parish council on actions that are
being taken by the school to try and alleviate the situation. County Councillor Ben
Shirley is visiting the area with Highways and Cumbria Local Committee members on
Thursday. The parish council assured Mrs McFarlane that they would do anything that
was within their power to help the school and Councillor Shirley to ensure the safety and
well being of the children, staff and parents.
3/10/20/2: Land at Rear of Sharp Street. An email has been received regarding
concerns about an allotment being extended on land at the rear of Sharp Street. This
land is privately owned, and the parish council did not feel it was appropriate for them to
get involved in this matter. The Borough Council are aware of the situation, as are the
landowners.
3/10/20/3: Bench on Duddon Road. The parish council have been contacted about a
broken bench on Duddon Road. The bench is the property of Barrow Borough Council
and the Clerk has contacted them and they are looking into replacing the it.

5/10/20: PROGRESS AND UPDATES FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES
5/10/20/1: Speeding in the Village. Cllr Steve Smalley has received the Prolaser
Speed gun purchased by the parish council. Cllr Smalley will look at getting the team
together. If anyone would like to volunteer to join the team we would like to hear
from you. Following complaints regarding speeding vehicles, the SID has been
deployed on Ireleth Road and Dalton Road. Results will be sent to the Parish Council
when data available.
5/10/20/2: Service of Remembrance 8th November 2020. After looking at
guidelines and advice from Barrow Borough Council it was decided, with deep regret
that the parade, service, and wreath laying will not go ahead in the Memorial Garden.
The Chairman of the Parish Council will lay a wreath privately on behalf of the
community. Other organisations who normally lay a wreath can send one representative
do so privately from 11 am. On this occasion we would ask the community to observe
the silence at 11am on their own doorstep. Both churches within the parish are holding
services of remembrance.

Crime figures for September – 3 ASB- 2 of youths causing a nuisance on Duke Street, 1
of youths causing a nuisance on Victoria Street; 1 assault Parklands Drive - Common
Assault; 0 burglaries; 4 criminal damage – vehicle scratched on Teal Close, Damage to
hinges on gage and brick work on Parklands Drive, 2 garage doors damaged on
Wakefield Street, 0 drugs; 2 fraud - 1 items bought on facebook market place not
delivered, 1 fraudulent payment at Ireleth Village Stores; 3 harassment 2 at the same
address, neighbourly dispute; 1 unwanted phone call, domestic related; 2 thefts – 1
abstraction of electricity from Roanhead Cottages. 1 making off without paying at Ireleth
Village Stores.

8/10/20: MEMBERS CODE OF CONDUCT
Barrow Borough Council have a new code of conduct and they have asked that the
members of Askam and Ireleth adopt this code of conduct. This was agreed
unanimously. The Clerk was asked to inform Barrow BC.

9/10/20: UPDATE ON DOCTORS SURGERY
Work continues to try and resolve 2 issues preventing the purchase of the surgery, time
is of the essence and progress is urgently needed to conclude this matter.
10/10/20: REPORT FROM CLERK INCLUDING FINANCES
The monthly expenditure spreadsheet was sent to the parish councillors prior to the
meeting. This was reviewed and accepted.
The Clerk mentioned that a budget would have to be set before end of November and
from this the precept will need to be agreed.
