6/03/24/1: Statue for Memorial Garden. The statue for the memorial has been placed on order by BAE Systems and will be manufactured by Furness Fluid Power.
7/03/24: REPORT FROM BARROW NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE TEAM
10 crimes reporting in period 20/02/24 – 19/03/24 of these 5 have investigations ongoing, however all parties known and no wider impact on the community; others have been finalised and there are no ongoing concerns for the wider public in Askam and Ireleth. 1 minor road traffic collision reported on Dalton Road bye-pass.
During the last meeting we gave an update on SID being placed on Dalton Road facing the Dalton roundabout direction at the 40mph sign, in the meantime we have turned it around to face the level-crossing, at the same location, and are pleased to report that of over 41,000 vehicles over a two-week period the average speed was 39.9mph; this was within the 40mph limit, and although this is pushing the higher limit it can be explained that within the range SID detects the vehicles they will have been about to enter a 60mph limit. So overall we are happy motorists are respecting the speed limits.
We are pleased to introduce your new Community Beat Officer and Police Community Support Officer, who took up their posts on 18th March 2024, for the Dalton & Askam ward. Unfortunately PC 2997 Chloe Dixon is on pre-arranged training this week and PCSO 5426 Talitha-May Hickey has existing commitments to finalise on her previous Barrow Town Centre ward so neither are able to attend this evening, however they have many plans in the coming days and weeks and have arranged a meet-and-greet session in Askam Library on Thursday 11th April 2024 between 1400 and 1600 hours, we will be sending out posters and social media details in due course, but any opportunity to share this with your residents would be appreciated.

9/03/24: UPDATE FROM WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCILLOR
Cllr Edwards reported that he had attended the W&F locality board meeting prior to the parish council meeting. There had been discussions with the Rights of Way team regarding replacing footpath signs within W&F, this had been agreed. The 10p swim initiative had proved very successful earlier this year and would be rolled out again during the May school holidays, this would include Dalton Leisure centre. Cllr Edwards is still concerned about the amount of litter on the A590 and has highlighted this again to Officers. Cllr Harry Barker said he had noticed a large amount of insulation material had been spilled along the Dalton by-pass from Park Road, probably this evening. Cllr Susan Orrell asked Cllr Edwards about the bus shelter near Greenscoe, which is in a poor condition. Cllr Edwards said he was trying to get this bus shelter removed, but the issue was trying to ascertain who it belonged to.
10/03/24: REPORT FROM CLERK (INCLUDING FINANCES)

Askam and Ireleth History Group first meeting on the year on Thursday 21st March Dr Suzanne Tiplady– the High Road to Dalton. Duddon Road Church 7.30 pm.
Ireleth with Askam WI have a coffee morning on Saturday 23rd March at 10.00 am in the Community Centre.
